The show goes on!

That's right. 14th September was the last day SumTotal volunteers were 'officially' regulating traffic at CT. But NO, that wasn't the last day of the initiative itself!
Inspired by the initiative taken, encouraged by the positive change seen, some of us employees of IT companies in the area have volunteered to continue this effort. And we plan to be at this for a 'few' more days at least!
So if you thought the orange 'jackealts' are gone, the left lane's going to be blocked, it's anarchy on the roads again...you're wrong! We'll still be there to free the left lane for you. To bring some sense in the madness. To help you reach work a little less frustrated!
And you can support us in this. By doing what you can - following rules.

Bus Stops
The Bus Stops should be moved from the end or beginning of roads. This will ease congestion at intersections.

Bus Bays
Demarcate a bus bay with solid bright lines. A bug should only stop there. No other vehicle should cross this laxman rekha

Auto stands
Give the resposibility of managing auto stands to the auto drivers. They usually enforce them better. At high tech city, they follow a queue system. Demarcate number of autos per stand in all places in the city

Foot Paths
Most important tool to free traffic flow.Increasing and making footpaths functional will ensure that people on foot are off the road and increase carriage way..
In localities like jubilee hills, home owners take over footpath space by construction small gardens. Take them back. Then you can ask people to use them or be fined

Traffic Lights
They should be made to operate 24 hours. People will respect them when they are asked to repect them all the time. Even if there is one vehicle on the road

Hawker Zones
Implement them through out the city and not at only some places.

Lanes
Current lane system is dysfucntional because of heterogenous types of vehicles. Make lanes based on need.
Eg: Direction of turn should be given precedence over lanes for 2 or 4 wheelers

Flyovers
Make flyovers no entry for all buses, lorries, slow moving goods vehicles. Make them available for only cars and two wheelers. This way a flyover can serve its purpose

Police
Currently many police personnel do not use helmets, drive on wrong side, drive triples all the time. No one will respect rules if they do not. GIve an incentive system for people to catch them

Foot Over bridges
In places like sec bad railway station - construct foot over bridges so that people do not wander on the roads for getting into buses.
Roads are meant for vehicles. Footpaths are meant for walking

Cycle Lanes
Have a small cycle lane in all roads between footpath and main lanes

If anyone reads this comment, here is a humble request. The authorities are laying the roads from Doctor's Colony to ilabs (via Durgam Cheruvu) and also laying a few pipelines. Let us not use that road for another 10 to 15 days on both ways so that the work can be taken up at a faster pace. Let us show some patience!

Sure thing..
I think I'm doing my part of justice to the movement, though not being physically present at the CT junction. Instead, just by following the traffic rules, making sure of "keeping the left lane free" and telling ignorant educated fools why they should also be following rules and what this whole thing is about. I still feel dejected when I see people dressed in the finest of clothes driving the best of cars honking hard and behaving like nerds. It's never a problem with someone who doesn't know. The problem is with someone who doesn't want to know or wants to remain ignorant.

Anyways, the reason why I'm back with a post here is - a few days back I'd written about a road that leads to Cyber gateway from the SMR vinay enclave (road next to kedar towers-birla soft). While going from Cyber gateway (towards the vennela and nihal/gurnihal restaurants) this road is in a mess and cannot be used by cars/ bikes. We tried using this road once and had to turn back and take the CT junction way again because of the bad shape of the road.
Now, is there someway we can repair this or get it repaired, so that most of the traffic turning left from CT junction, going to cyber gateway, cyber pearl, TCS, the V park etc can use this road. I was planning to get together with some of my friends and repair it ourselves over the weekend but I was suggested that it would be better to follow the process and get it done, so that the solution is permanent.

hi Joe
What exactly do you need to repair that road? I can talk to the police and the GHMC, if needed. If possible, please send me a few snaps of the road. Please email me at sikhoya [at] gmail dot com

Cell phone usage: those using the cell phone when driving should be fined like they do in Singapore. At the most hands free connections could be permitted.

All those who cross the road by jumping over medians and not at the permitted road crossing point should be fined. And those who cross the road especially at places where a FOB has been provided.

Buses should stop only at bus stops and not in the middle of the road.

Lane discipline is essential.

It is senseless to provide a 6 lane road converging to a 2 lane flyover as at Begumpet. The chaos there is unbelievable. In narrow roads in London the traffic moves in such an orderly fashion. We do not need wider roads. When will our authorities realise this. Don't they go on foreign jaunts all the time. What do they do there?

Hi, Sameer.

I came back to your website to see how FTLL initiative is working. I'm so glad to see that you guys feel the traffic is better.

I am optimistic that people in Hyderabad will change. It takes a few committed, motivated souls like yourself and others to effect it.

Good work, and more success to you.
