The "Reality show on traffic" idea has been accepted by CNN IBN - woohoo!

I had a call with CNN IBN yesterday and they said that they liked the idea and are going to use it for a show called Urban Chaos starting in Jan next year. :) I hope to get involved in the planning and execution of the show.
Meanwhile, they have asked me to shoot an episode for 'Be the Change', a show about citizens who tackle problems on their own. I have requested Jayarama, Ruchira and Murali to be a part of it as they, like me, are passionate about solving the traffic problems. (If you want to join in, send me an email)
I will be given a camera and will be expected to shoot for about 3 weeks, detailing what problem we face and what we are doing to solve it.
I hope it's not a prank (would be a good one though ;) ).
Anyway, this is just the means to get more traction on our efforts to ease the flow of traffic in CT (and maybe in Hyderabad as well).

Not sure if your reality TV idea will work out, but I have a different suggestion - check it out -

This site http://driving-india.blogspot.com/ has been created with the purpose of providing driver education and training to all Indian road users. It is by far the most comprehensive website providing training in defensive driving. Learning simple road habits can make our roads safe and also free up congestion caused by traffic chaos.

At present 17 driver education videos aimed at changing the driving culture on Indian roads are available. The video are unique in that the footage is real life action from streets of London. We have copied the Western habits: Replaced the dhoti with denim, high rise buildings for Indian cottages, burgers and coke instead of Indian breads and perhaps sugarcane juice. Surely we can copy the Western ways of travelling too.

To watch the videos, interested readers may visit: http://driving-india.blogspot.com/

The videos cover the following topics:

Video 1: Covers the concept of Blind spots
Video 2: Introduces the principle of Mirrors, Signal and Manoeuvre
Video 3: At red lights, stop behind the stop line
Video 4: At red lights there are no free left turns
Video 5: The Zebra belongs to pedestrians
Video 6: Tyres and Tarmac (rather than bumper to bumper)
Video 7: Merging with the Main road
Video 8: Leaving The Main Road
Video 9: Never Cut Corners
Video 10: Show Courtesy on roads
Video 11: 5 Rules that help deal with Roundabouts
Video 12: Speed limits, stopping distances, tailgating & 2 seconds rule
Video 13: Lane discipline and overtaking
Video 14: Low beam or high beam?
Video 15: Parallel (reverse parking) made easy
Video 16: Give the cyclist the respect of a car
Video 17: Dealing with in-car condensation

Many thanks

Oh My god! Are you guys doing for real..

I had these thoughts which I posted in orkut and someone showed me this blog.
I wish I can do something.

This is the one I posted.....

This is just a thought...I am too far away(physically) to implement.

I had this always in my mind, why dont we do somethign about traffic. There are so many accidents happening and people losing dear ones.

We can praob with the help of police(may or may not) in a group can direct a traffic just for one day.

2)If we can convice that each college in our city to control traffic for one day.

3) Also we can ask "BIG" corporates to do this for one day(like Satyam one day). Why they will do it? Because they will feel that they are giving back to community. Everyone can see it.

I know its not one day thign but atleast we can create awareness...somewhere it has to start....and it affects each one of us...

I dont know if its feasible or not, but i think thats why we are here to discuss....

Please Ponder over it.....

Hi Satya

How do I get in touch with you?

Sameer, I wish to join you. my email id is shant_dey@yahoo.com. I was infact planning to devote one whole day shooting differeint violations on the road that we encounter daily in Hyderabad. The essence is complete lack of road safety and rules awareness by all and sundry and lack of discipline.
There are also certain unsafe things to highlight like commercial vehicles carrying load projecting for several yards from the back endangering other traffic, construction lorries carrying huge bolders loose, without any constrain at the back to hold them so that if one of them falls on the road, serious accidents may happen.

Hi Sir,

I have an idea regarding the traffic in hyderabad.ie., why we will see these accident news daily in the news paper, because even if we maitain zebra lines every one will cross the road when the people use the zebra crossing.

My idea is when ever people will use zebra lines to cross the road at that time the traffic must stop even there is green signal. this will save the life of the people.

your's sincerly
