Looking for Leaders!

A couple of folks got in touch with me last week to work on the traffic problems we face. We have decided to work on the traffic issues based on the strategy in this post.

Also I hope that my nomination for the Pepsi MTV Youth Icon Awards will be helpful in reaching out to more people. ( AND BTW, PLEASE VOTE FOR ME) :)

We are looking for LEADERS who have the drive, passion and commitment to bring about a change in Hyderabad.

It is going to be very tough; It may be a thankless job but it will be very fulfilling. The same people you are trying to help will question your actions. The same people will argue and fight with you, but you will have to look at the bigger picture and carry on!

It will involve a lot of grit and dedication from your end; lot of sweat and tears as well! But when we're successful, we would have made our city a better place to live in- for us and for generations to follow.

The stretch of road we're targeting is from Jubilee Hills checkpost to Kothaguda junction.
Groups of LEADERS will manage the below entities:
  • Autos
  • Cabs
  • APSRTC buses
  • Pedestrians
  • Citizens who use 4 wheelers and/or 2 wheelers to commute

You will have the chance to work on real problems that plague almost every citizen ... and solve these problems. If you consider yourself a problem solver and believe that you can make a difference, then please join us. Send me an email at sikhoya at gmail dot com or you could also join the Traffic Google group and send an email to the group.

Hi Samir,
Great Blog. I really Appreciate your effort put in bringing an end to traffic misery in hyderabad. To be honest, I feel that just by concentrating in the areas near the IT park, won't bring an end to this dreaded problem. Awareness has to be created throughout the city, and implemented accordingly.

Hi Hitesh

You're right about spreading awareness throughout the city. The reason we're concentrating on this stretch of road is because it is frequented mainly by (highly) educated people and by focusing on a smaller stretch, we increase our chances of succeeding in this campaign and if and when we do succeed, this project will show people that traffic can be better if everyone did what they're supposed to! Once people start seeing results, spreading to other areas becomes easier!

Hi Kapil
Thanks for those kind words. I am more than happy to help out - just let me know how! :)
Even here in Hyd, there are times when you get frustrated, depressed and angry when people don't give you support/encouragement even though we're really trying to help them.
Anyway, I hope that at least this project take off. It's going to be very, very difficult, but we will do our best!

I totally agree with you. People just tend to ignore us and just dont comply with us which is really so annoying. The best way by which we can get this project started off here in Mumbai is by getting media coverage and awareness amomg various top schools and colleges through which many enthusiastic students will give their best to help us..I know many people here who are up with the idea!...And can you let me know your website?..I went through the Right to walk foundation site..but that isnt founded by you..

Hi Kapil
I don't have a separate website, just this blog. Going forward we may setup a site where members can be added.

Hi Sameer,
How about distributing stickers with the FTLL logo on it so that people use them on their vehicles?

Is there some time/place ppl meetup to brainstorm the next steps. There are various reasons that will help, most ppl may be able to commit short term involvement where they would like to probably take small challenges to begin with, they might be able to give quick suggestion that are easy to act and taught to ppl. What do you think.
I would love to be part of such a meetup to brainstorm with similar minded ppl about small steps that can easily be taken and made part of spreading the awareness.

Hi Sameer,
Chanced upon your blog while searching for traffic in Hyderabad issues. Feels good to see people like you who share the same passion that I do and want to do something to the city's roads rather than just playing the blame game.
Chech out our site soch.in to see how we are trying in our little way to help the city. It'll be great to meet you some day in the near future. If people like us get together we can do a lot to improve road safety here.
